Transport systems

AEG was founded in 1887 by Emil Rathenau. In first decades the enterprise grew up fast into a significant, big international group. AEG employed 170,000, of it a large portion in Berlin. AEG Industrial Engineering is a society for electric arrangements of the industry, for the energy industry and the transport, as well as ship applications and train solutions . We are the traditional location of the AEG head- quarter  and industrial plants at  Hohenzollerndamm in Berlin. We are in close contact with the present and former AEG factories.

More Than 100 years ago the first electric locomotives and trains have been built. The Berlin Streetcars, high- and subways were originally driven by DC – motors. The electric railways required  originally remarkably higher drive powers, than the DC – drives with its limited voltages could provide.

Early AEG locomotive

In order to provide long-range lines with  more electric power AEG and Siemens & Halske experimented with three phase current for traction. For tests the prussion railway lines between Zossen and Marienfelde were used. On 6th of October 1903 on this lines a Siemens three phase fast train achieved 206,7 km/h beyond 200 km/h. On 27th of October the AEG-Train achieved the world record of 210,2 km/h. At that time these values achieved world wide attention and were surpassed only later.

3 phase train

ICE first generation, Power 9600 kW, speed 280 km/h, train length 420 m.

The first AC single phase train of the world was tested on a 4,1 km line suburb of Berlin 6000 Volt, 25 cycles in 1903. The business segment road systems of the AEG, afterwards integral component of Daimler - Benz group was one of the leading international active suppliers now 16 2/3 cycles at 15000 Volt. The Division Rail Systems of AEG was during the years 1980 and 1990 an integrated part of the Daimler-Benz company, finally under the name Adtrans and was one of the internationally active railway suppliers. The orientation to wards new Railsystems and tracks for local and long range has marked new milestones towards the future. Important developments In this direction are the ICE and the TRANSRAPID of AEG. AEG during the German reunification has recovered the complete factory at Henningsdorf and the Diesel motor manufacturer MTU.

The service of AEG Industrial Engineering GmbH with its department Rail Systems is available to AEG clients for spare parts worldwide and modernizing know how.

Spare parts and Components

In modern travel train car and multiple units heating, fan and air-conditionings are provided electrically. For the thermo-static regulation of the filament current circles are supplied according to heating system contactors with different switch frequency. Our devices HzS 4000 are conceived for 10 million switch operations. The devices of the series TS 1000 are suitable solid-state contactors and even for more than 10 mil. switch operations.
